The
Inglewood Neighborhood Association and Youth, Inc. have
agreed to partner with the Isaac Litton Alumni Association for
the renovation and use of the gym. The first phase of the three phase
renovation will provide office and activity space for the Youth, Inc.
programs.
Youth, Inc., a fifty-plus-year-old
organization, will occupy the main floor offices and schedule all activities
in the building in addition to providing custodial services. Youth,
Inc. oversees basketball, football and roller blade programs throughout
Metro and will use the Litton gym and adjacent athletic facilities
as home base for their programs. Another group Youth
Sports (the basketball program of the old Police Athletic League),
will also schedule their needs for the gym. This will involve approximately
six hundred mostly at risk children. We are planning to
provide counseling as needed.
The Inglewood Neighborhood Association
will have scheduled events in the lower area after Phase II is completed.
This will also serve as the area for Litton alumni activities and house
Litton memorabilia.
Renewed rest rooms, kitchenette, air conditioning,
meeting/card room, doors and windows are planned for this space.
Richard (Dick) King, a local resident
and architect, has prepared the plans and specifications for pricing
and contracting that will comply
|
with requirements and current codes.
The Litton alumni will have control of all activities and final
approval of all proposals. The alumni, by agreement with the Metro
schools, must have all plans approved by the Metro school system before
alterations can be made to the property. Construction estimates by
