At
the request of Dr. Bill Wise, the former director of Metro Nashville
Public Schools in 1999, the Isaac Litton Alumni Association
agreed to partner with the Nashville Police Athletic League
and raise funds to renovate the former Isaac Litton High School gymnasium
for them to occupy and use.
The alumni had contributions and commitments
in excess of $600,000 when a change in the police departments
leadership dissolved the Police Athletic League. Since funds were solicited
for the 501(c)(3) PAL, the alumni declined commitments and refunded
all monies to the original donors.
The alumni wishing to cause the gymnasium
to become an asset in the community and a legacy for Littons
graduates applied for a new agreement with the Metro schools, requested
and received IRS 501 (c)(3) status and formed a three
|
way organization to
use, occupy and maintain the gymnasium.
The alumni association is now starting
a fund raising program to raise $2,000,000.00 for the total
renovation. We presently have $82,207.00 in designated renovation funds
and $12,420.00 in general funds. The $82,207.00 was raised from personal
donations by various alumni, golf tournaments, school cap sales, pictures,
alumni events and silent auctions. We received $13,000.00 from the
Metro Nashville councils discretionary fund that was used for
architectural services.
We are now starting over and determined
to leave a legacy for a school that has meant so much to its graduates
and community.
We gratefully ask for your support.
